Paulistanos talk about the weather constantly — especially rain and heat. Tá chovendo? is as common as Tudo bem?
Brazilian weather expressions

Pronunciation (2 min)
“ch” in chuva, chovendo
The ch in Portuguese sounds like English sh in shoe:
- chu-va, cho-ven-do, cho-ve
Practice: chuva → chovendo → chove
”Tá” — informal reduction (spoken)
Tá = está — extremely common in Brazil. Label it as spoken/informal:
- Written/formal: Está chovendo.
- Spoken: Tá chovendo.
Do not drop the t in writing, but expect to hear Tá everywhere.
Nasal preview
Chovendo has no nasal, but weather words often do: não, estação, então. You’ll review nasals in Lecture 20.
