Part 1 — Verbos regulares em -er (Regular -er verbs)
Model verb: comer (to eat)

Part 3 — Porque e por isso (Because and that’s why)

Question form: Por quê? (Why?) — in questions, often written Por que (two words).

Common mistake: Don’t confuse porque (because) with por que (why in a question).

Write 4–5 lines answering a classmate: languages you speak + why you study PT + one por isso consequence.

Key phrases:
- Por que você estuda português? = Why do you study Portuguese?
- Porque eu moro em… = Because I live in…
- Por isso = that’s why
- Faz sentido! = That makes sense!
Pronunciation (2 min)
-er/-ir endings: como, come, comemos, comem — the -e in come is a closed vowel, similar to English “eh” but shorter.
porque vs por isso: Porque is stressed on the last syllable (oxítona): por-QUE. Por isso has stress on isso: por IS-so. Don’t run them together.

- Write 5 sentences with porque explaining why you do things (study, work, live in SP, etc.).
- Write 3 sentences with por isso showing consequences.
- Conjugate for eu: comer, beber, entender, abrir, decidir.
- Translate: I understand Portuguese a little. Because I want to talk to my neighbors. She eats lunch at the office. That's why she doesn't cook at home.
Oral
- Record yourself (1 minute): explain why you study Portuguese — use porque at least twice and por isso once.
- Practice the contrast aloud: Por que você estuda? / Porque eu moro em SP. / Eu moro em SP. Por isso, eu estudo todo dia.
