- In Lecture 05 you reviewed Block 1 — rules, habits, duration, future, and orthography. Today we use those time markers inside stories — how Brazilians talk about films, books, and what happened last weekend.
Tip: Brazilians rarely summarize plots in past tense at the bar — they often use present for drama: Aí o cara entra na sala e todo mundo fica em choque.
Part 1 — Presente histórico: narrar com vivacidade
The presente histórico uses present tense to tell past events — it makes the story feel immediate, like you’re reliving it.
When Brazilians use it

Rule: Both are correct in Brazil. Present = more dramatic. Past = more formal or written summary.
Model — film summary in presente histórico
O filme é sobre dois amigos que crescem na favela. Eles sonham sair dali, mas a vida complica tudo. Então um deles entra pro crime. Enquanto isso, o outro tenta estudar. No final, os caminhos se separam — e o espectador fica pensando nas escolhas.

Connector flow — model paragraph

Paulistanos speak fast but pause on drama words. Connectors are often shortened:
