Part 2 — Gramática: imperativo afirmativo (você)

The imperative gives commands, advice, and instructions. In Brazil, você form is standard for advice to one person.

Part 3 — Gramática: imperativo com a gente

For suggestions including yourself, use a gente + present subjunctive form (same as nós imperative in Brazil):

Part 4 — Gramática: imperativo + pronomes oblíquos

Object pronouns attach to the imperative (or come before in negative forms).

Affirmative — pronoun after verb (hyphen)

Brazilian preference: Pronoun before the verb is very common in speech:

  • Me liga quando chegar.
  • Se cuida, tá?

Health advice connects to food. Imperative appears in recipes:

Read a “problem” (I’m tired, I eat badly, I don’t exercise). Partners give 3 pieces of advice each.

Activity 2 — Imperative chain (5 min)

One student says a command. Next obeys and adds one: Descansa!OK, descansei. Agora beba água!

Activity 3 — Doctor vs friend (10 min)

Same situation, two registers: formal doctor advice vs warm friend advice.

Activity 4 — SP wellness plan (10 min)

Design a healthy week in São Paulo: exercise, food, rest. Present with imperatives.

Activity 5 — Imperative bingo (5 min)

Teacher calls infinitives. Students write imperative (você). First to complete 8 verbs wins.

Activity 6 — Recovery plan role-play (10 min)

One student is sick (3 symptoms). Partner writes a “recovery plan” with 6 imperatives and presents it.

  1. Record yourself giving advice to a stressed friend (1–2 minutes). Use relaxa, vai com calma, se cuida.

  3. Real life: Give advice in Portuguese to a friend (or record a voice message).
